Who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner?! A fun twist on a recipe exchange! Choose a recipe from a designated cook book in the Karl Junginger Memorial Library. Take a copy of that recipe home, make it, and bring to the library on June 15. Taste different dishes and go home with a recipe book.

June 15, 2017 – Hello Building! How Old are You?

Focusing on the 1856 Smith Allen House & the 1860 JJ Starin House in Whitewater, this program from the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library includes a short walking tour to investigate their design features, building materials, and scale. This prepares attendees to create their own clay model back at the library. Using the learning sequence of awareness-creates-knowledge-creates-protection and some concrete comparisons between humans and buildings, attendees will look at and care about our local landmarks in new ways as a result of this program.

June 17, 2017 – 6th Annual Mason Jar Jamboree

Join us at the 6th Annual Mason Jar Jamboree to celebrate our local history and enjoy great local tunes! Featuring live music, nature walks, demonstrations, historical entertainment, kids activities and plenty of good food. The event raises money for the restoration of the Mason log home which was discovered on the grounds of Dorothy Carnes County Park in 2004.

The Jamboree will host presenters from the area on topics such as Birds of Rose Lake, Animal Tracks, Native and Invasive Plants of Wisconsin, Aquatic Insects of Rose Lake, Raising Honey Bees, Raising and Grazing Rabbits, Basket Weaving, and a local Blacksmith’s Forge from 2-5pm.

Other activities will include the Fort Health Care Railyard Fitness equipment, Stew Helwig’s Kids Log Cabin (a life-sized Lincoln Log set), an auction of Carnes Park inspired artwork, and the annual pie sale. Healthy wraps and hot dogs will be for sale throughout the day, as well as slices of homemade pie. The event is always highlighted by some of our local musicians, including Jill and the Jax, Merry Hoard, Rose Among Thorns, and Bill Camplin and Company. Music begins at 3pm and runs until 7pm.

Located on Mason Farm County Park off of Banker Road (Dorothy Carnes Park East), W6509 Jones Lane, Fort Atkinson. Take Banker Road a mile or so north from Fort Atkinson; the entrance will be on the left.
