Grandma A+
Kansas Troubles is the pattern of the barn quilt on Katie and Nathan Fortney’s shed. The pattern was chosen because it was her grandmother’s favorite pattern. Her grandmother, Naomi Athas, was an avid quilter. Her favorite colors were used on the quilt, yellow, green, and red. The shed was lovingly called the barn by her grandmother so her family felt it needed a barn quilt. The Athas family named the quilt Grandma A+ because that is how she signed her cards to the grandchildren. Another grandchild, Alex Lee, created the quilt in the basement of her home. The quilt was a Christmas gift to grandma in 2009 and hung in 2010. The shed was built in 1990 by her grandfather, Paul Athas. The shed was built for storage and still used today. The Fortneys are proud to be the owners of her grandparent’s home. The quilt reminds them of her grandmother and how happy she would be to know they are living there today.
