Jefferson County is home to some of the most beautiful, unique, affordable, and conveniently located event venues in Wisconsin. Join us as we take you on a journey of LOVE. We’ll be partnering with couples that are getting married or were recently married in one of our beautiful locales. Meet Ashley and Mike. This couple said their “I dos” in September of 2020 at Milford Hills in Johnson Creek.

Where are you and your partner originally from?

Ashley – Neenah, Wisconsin. Mike – Lake Villa, Illinois

How did you meet?

Mike and I met in college at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Some of our mutual friends were playing a board game in the lobby of our dorm, and we both happened to catch each others eye. Mike started talking to me and made me laugh like I haven’t in a long time, and we ended up spending most of our night getting to know each other. After Mike asked me for my number, I hesitantly gave it to him and after that, we had many nights walking around Waukesha in the winter bundled up and talking about our home lives and the most important parts of us. We never looked back.

Tell us your engagement story!

Mike always said that he wanted to be dating for five years before he proposed to anyone. After several large life changing moments in my life including losing my grandma and my mom, he saw my at my absolute worst and made every moment easier to breathe and get through. On the night we celebrated our five year anniversary at Sybaris, the waterfall was turned on in our private pool attached to our room and candles were lit all around the pool. That’s where he finally popped the question!

What made you choose your venue?

It was really important to me that I got married on a hill to signify all that we’ve been through. I wanted it to symbolize that we’ve been making this climb to get to the most ultimate and perfect view, where we’re at the highest point overlooking our dating years. Milford hills overlooks a beautiful pond and has great scenery and photo opportunities that were difficult to pass up. Milford hills has a relaxed atmosphere with absolutely delicious food, and it fit in with my personality perfectly as I spent a lot of time growing up outside with my family. The wedding packages are phenomenal and we really liked the idea of the sparklers, customized cocktails, patio bar, and option for s’mores. The event planner at Milford Hills made us confident that everything would go off without a hitch.

Which vendor(s) impressed and/or helped you the most and why?

We were extremely impressed with Avid Gardener. She was so professional and made sure that she grew the exact type of sunflower that I wanted. She also had me come in to double check she completely understood what I wanted and reminded me of things that I would need that I completely forgot about like a bouquet to toss, ring bearer, and flower girl flowers. She also came into my bridal suite on the day of the wedding to let me know that everything was delivered and set up. I was so impressed with Heidi who was the event planner at Milford Hills as well. She is one assertive lady who made sure that everyone took direction and were where they were supposed to be at the right time and I couldn’t appreciate that more! Bon Ton Bakery also went the extra mile to supply us with the stands that we wanted and allowed us to return them the following day. They ran with my sunflower idea and everything looked and tasted delicious.

For couples that have gotten married: What was your favorite part about your big day?

Our favorite part was the intimate feeling of the venue at Milford Hills. Everything ran smoothly, the photo opportunities were phenomenal, and we had a moment to sneak away, just the two of us, and go sit out under where we got married and celebrate that we did it. We also really enjoyed the sparkler tunnel because we had planned on using it as our pregnancy reveal! Heidi knew ahead of time that I was expecting and we were announcing and made sure to offer me virgin cocktails since I wasn’t able to drink. The on-site lodging for the men was also such a fun time with the pool table and a place for everyone to celebrate and hang out the night before the wedding. We can’t picture being married anywhere else.

What advice would you share with couples looking to have their celebration in Jefferson County?

It’s a beautiful county. Take advantage of the small shops that are within Jefferson County! The people that live here are so personable and really want to make sure that your day is as memorable and special as you want it to be. As stressful as wedding planning is made out to be, I never felt any kind of stress of wondering what was happening or if someone wasn’t going to deliver. Everyone went above and beyond and I would recommend getting married here to anyone that wants a very meaningful and warm experience.
