Our Favorite Day Trips

Your fun-filled time in Jefferson County could stir up some “wanderlust”.  Take a day trip to one of our neighboring communities!

Dodge County

Leave your devices at home and take a recreational adventure in Dodge County. Hike, bike, cross-country ski, go horseback riding, or ATV along the county’s beautiful trail system.  Relax on the lakes or take a gentle cruise on the rivers. The county has excellent camping opportunities. A visit to Dodge County isn’t complete without a stop at Horicon Marsh, the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States. It is the site of both a national and a state wildlife refuge, bringing you an experience with nature you won’t find anywhere else.

Our neighbor to the south is Janesville where you can recharge your spirit when exploring hundreds of acres of tranquil parkland and miles of peaceful trails. Take in the breathtaking beauty of their award-winning botanical garden and discover the charm of their 13 historic districts and quaint downtown. Explore a variety of shopping and dining, savor a craft beer or locally made wine. Sit back and immerse yourself in live theater or feel the exhilaration of the world’s best water-ski show team.

Take a quick day trip to Madison. Summertime is the perfect time to visit the world-renowned farmers market and explore our many outdoor offerings. We’ve curated 12 Iconic Adventures to help you experience our 200 miles of paths, hundreds of parks, and four beautiful lakes.

Madison’s a thriving place with a feeling all its own. Walkable. Bikeable. Nature galore. With world-class eats and sensational sips. Things may look a bit different right now, but we’re here to welcome you safely. Come see how we’re reopening.

Located on the scenic shore of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee makes a great urban-easy getaway. Milwaukee is home to the world’s only Harley-Davidson Museum and the stunning Milwaukee Art Museum with its iconic “wings.” A charming downtown RiverWalk connects a German heritage-inspired district with the lively Milwaukee Public Market in the Historic Third Ward. Add in our beaches, urban kayaking, an extended network of bike and running trails, and a very walkable downtown, and you’ll get a good work-out too. Brewery tours, James Beard-recognized restaurants, excursion boats, and summer-long lakefront festivals – you’ll find all this and more on tap in Milwaukee.
