An Extraordinary Celebration of Love at the Watertown Country Club
How They Met
Veronica was working at the UPS Store and Shawn was a delivery driver when the two first met. Whenever Shawn would stop by, the two would chat, and they slowly got to know one another a bit more. Eventually, Shawn asked Veronica out, and after one date, they knew they were meant to be.
The Engagement
Shawn’s proposal was a scene straight out of a romcom. Veronica thought there was no way Shawn could top her Christmas gifts for him: an electric razor, a video game, and an ornament. Shawn had been working on a secret project and kept asking her random questions in the weeks leading up to the holiday, like “What was the first movie we saw together?” Veronica assumed he was curating a scrapbook. Then, on Christmas morning, there was a huge box under the tree. She had no idea what was about to come next.
Shawn booted up the Xbox to reveal a homemade trivia game, which included questions about their relationship. Veronica had to answer the questions correctly in order to move on. At the end of the game, a Christmas tree just like theirs appeared on the screen with a caption that read, “Look under the tree.” Veronica unwrapped the large box under the tree, revealing a Nutcracker, a ring wrapped around the tiny Christmas tree in its hand, and a note: “Will you marry me?” When she looked up, Shawn was on his knee.
The Reception
Shawn and Veronica held their wedding reception at the Watertown Country Club. Their coordinator Angela set everything up beforehand, then tore it all down and stored the couple’s odds and ends until they picked them up the next day.
The Watertown Country Club also catered the delicious reception dinner, for which the newlyweds received tons of compliments.
The Decor
Veronica and Shawn planned an October wedding, which incorporated lots of homemade elements with autumnal flair. The fall color scheme featured burlap accents. Veronica also letterpressed the invitations, programs, and signs and designed all of the place cards, which she stuck on miniature pumpkins. There was even a DIY canvas tree for guests to sign. Her favorite DIY projects were the sweets buffet and photo booth with costumes and props. The flowers came from Dutch Designs, a florist in Lake Mills.
Words of Wisdom from the Bride
“There is a lot involved in putting together your own wedding, but just seeing everyone come together, families meeting for the first time — all dancing, laughing, and eating together — made it all worth it,” Veronica shares. “Follow your heart. Don’t worry about what others want and have fun with it! Try not to stress about the little things; it will all come together in the end.”
