September 18, 2013 – World Music Festival
Four young women from Finland make up the folk music group Kardemimmit. Their beautiful harmonies blend with the kantele (the national instrument of Finland) in its 15 and 38 stringed forms. Their music is fresh, but strongly rooted in Finnish tradition from both Eastern and Western regions.
Young, master musicians, We Banjo 3, were named New Group of the Year & Concert of the Year Winners at The Livies: “Liveireland Irish Music Awards 2013.” They are a stunning fusion of modern brilliance and tradition that spans all tastes in Irish music.
Noura Mint Seymali is heir to a Mauritanian Griot lineage stretching back for untold generations and has emerged as a nationally beloved star and one of Mauritania’s foremost musical emissaries. Her success stems from her ability to combine a rare classical mastery and a griot’s cultural authority with musical idioms that speak to West Africa and beyond. Noura’s music is the embodiment of pentatonic desert blues. Come explore the desert with the Diva of Mauritania.
