Wisconsin Foodie Showcases the Best of Rock River Fishing in Fort Atkinson with Celebrity Chef Luke

The Rock River, a hidden gem for anglers in Wisconsin, recently took the spotlight as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) teamed up with Chef Luke Zahm to film a special episode of “Wisconsin Foodie.” The episode not only showcased the breathtaking beauty of the river but also celebrated the bountiful catches of walleye, northern pike, and bass with the assistance of local guides. The day culminated with a fish filleting session led by Brian from Bait Box on the Rock and a mouthwatering cooking segment at Island Bar and Grill with Chef Paige from North Shore Chophouse and Chef Luke with a special guest, Wisconsin’s own NFL Pro Hall of Famer Joe Thomas.

Chef Luke, a renowned culinary artist known for his dedication to locally sourced and sustainable ingredients, was excited to join forces with the Wisconsin DNR to explore the abundant fishing opportunities along the Rock River. He wanted to emphasize the importance of responsible and sustainable fishing while highlighting the culinary delights that can be created with fresh, local catches.

The episode captured the thrill of fishing on Rock River, with anglers reeling in impressive catches of walleye, northern pike, and bass. Local guides shared their knowledge and expertise, making it an educational and exciting experience for Chef Luke and the Wisconsin Foodie team.

Brian from Bait Box on the Rock, a trusted local bait and tackle shop, led a captivating fish fileting demonstration. His precision and skill in preparing the fresh catches for the kitchen helped educate all on the techniques.

The highlight of the day was the culinary segment at Island Bar and Grill, where Chef Paige from North Shore Chophouse, Chef Luke from Wisconsin Foodie and Driftless Cafe in Viroqua, WI and NFL Pro Hall of Famer Joe Thomas created a culinary masterpiece. With Chef Luke’s expertise in crafting delectable dishes, the meal was nothing short of extraordinary.

The episode not only showcased the excitement of fishing but also served as a reminder of the significance of preserving natural resources for future generations.
