Olbrich Botanical Gardens features 16 acres of outdoor display gardens and a year-round tropical conservatory. Visitors can experience the exquisite artisanship and culture of Thailand in Olbrich’s Thai Pavilion and Garden. The Pavilion is the only one in the continental United States. The unique Thai-style garden uses Midwest hardy plants with a tropical feel. Olbrich’s Rose Garden highlights innovative mixed borders of Midwest hardy shrub roses and perennials. Other gardens include the Sunken, Perennial, Herb, Rock, Meadow, Gravel, Serenity, Shade, and Wildflower Gardens. The outdoor gardens are free and open daily; donations appreciated.

The Bolz Conservatory, a sunny glass pyramid, houses a diverse collection of tropical plants, a rushing waterfall, free-flying birds, and blooming orchids year-round. Bask in the warmth of sunlight streaming through abundant tropical plants. The Bolz Conservatory is open daily from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and admission is $2 per person, free for ages 5 & under, and free to Olbrich Botanical Society Members. Admission is free for everyone on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-noon.

Explore the wonder of the natural world through Olbrich Botanical Gardens’ educational offerings. Learn new techniques, discover hidden talents, and improve your relationship with nature through adult walks, classes & workshops, and wellness programs. Investigate nature-based topics together through fun, hands-on youth, scout, and family classes. Bring your school group (K-5 grades) to our Explorer School Programs offered in the fall, winter, and spring.

Exhibits and programs such as Concerts in the Gardens, Blooming Butterflies, GLEAM, and Holiday Express attract visitors of all ages. Regional and international tours offer guests the opportunity to see gardens around the country and the world. Community groups and garden clubs also host meetings, sales, shows, and other events at the Gardens.

Located at the north end of Lake Monona, Olbrich Gardens is 2.5 miles east of downtown Madison. The visitor center is complete with a gift shop, gardening library, ATM, and restroom facilities.
