Jefferson County communities celebrate the holiday season in a spectacular way each year. This year, something new is coming to the Cambridge Classic Christmas weekend, held the first full weekend in December each year.
The newly formed Heartstrings Repertory Theatre will be bringing dinner theater to Cambridge! Their inaugural performance is “Scrooge’s Christmas” at Plow Restaurant from Thursday 12/5 to Sunday 12/8.
Thursday evening’s show will include a small plates meal. There are two shows on Saturday, which will feature a full English dinner, and Sunday promises a delicious afternoon dessert show.
Historically, Cambridge has been known for the transformation of the Victorian village during the holidays, highlighting the boutique shopping, celebrations at restaurants and pubs, and a Dickens Dinner where the whole community would come together. It has been a while since the Dickens Dinner was celebrated, but Scrooge’s Christmas will continue this lovely tradition in an updated and interactive format.
Heartstrings Repertory Theatre was created and is directed by actress Virginia Becker. “The dinners will be served up by the actors in our theater group, with the 1 hour Readers Theater style show following dinner. We will be immersed in our characters and are so looking forward to performing this wonderful rendition of the classic “Christmas Carol.” I chose Plow Restaurant for our first show because of the fabulous food, of course, but also because of the backdrop of the 19th century historic stone-walled building which was a feed mill and provides the feel of an intimate English pub, ” explained Becker.
“In addition to our dinner theater, you can spend the weekend singing carols in the park and meet Santa at the tree lighting, on Saturday take a horse drawn hayride, make a vintage ornament, take your picture in a Victorian sleigh, listen to a human, singing Christmas tree and on Sunday enjoy the holiday sounds of a melodic women’s choir, and much more… everything to pull at your heartstrings in a most picturesque place!” she continued.
