April 22, 2015 – FREE Event: Vang-A Drama About Recent Immigrant Farmers

VangPoet Laureate of Iowa, Mary Swander, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, Dennis Chamberlin, and Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival award winner, Matt Foss, collaborated to create a drama called Vang (meaning “garden” or “farm” in Hmong). This program documents recent Iowa immigrant farmers, winding their words together to form a verbatim play that captures the immigrants’ journeys to the United States. Hmong, Mexican, Sudanese, and Dutch immigrants all speak of their struggles, survival skills, and their intense desire to return to the land. Stunning photos and theatrical brilliance bring this production to life on stage. Michael Ching, past executive director of the Memphis opera, composed music to underscore the play’s impactful message.

April 23 through June 7, 2015 – All Shook Up

All Shook UpJoin us for the Fireside premiere of this rocking, rollicking musical comedy featuring the songs of the King of rock and roll  – Elvis Presley.   No tight pants, no kissing and no loud music.  Those are the rules in one small Midwestern 1950’s town.  But then a stranger comes to town – a rebellious, guitar-playing, hip swiveling roustabout (who bears a striking resemblance to the King himself). All at once everything changes – young love blooms, unspoken dreams begin to come true, and the once quiet little town is turned upside down in this hilarious, tuneful, high-stepping, award-winning Broadway romp featuring laughs, romance, thrilling dances, and a  host of your favorite Presley classics such as “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Burning Love” and many, many more!
