Taking a Fantasy Field Trip to Wisteria Castle
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Wisteria Castle, a beautiful event venue nestled in the countryside of Jefferson County. The Jefferson County Area Tourism Council was invited to hold its monthly meeting at the venue, and the group enthusiastically accepted. While we were there for business, it certainly felt more like a fantasy field trip.
I had seen photos of Wisteria Castle but had never been there in person. It immediately exceeded my expectations. Upon arriving, the grandeur of the exterior was breathtaking, with four floors of stone and a grand staircase commanding the landscape. I couldn’t wait to see inside.
Upon entering the castle, I was immediately overwhelmed with the beauty of the space. The intricate wallpaper, the plush carpet on the stairs, the wall hangings, and the furniture were all hand-selected with the utmost care.
Each room is like a museum that has to be explored and appreciated. At the time of our visit, the space was decorated for fall, and it was apparent that the castle can easily morph with the seasons.
Medieval touches are found throughout the castle, reminding visitors that they are in a very special place indeed.
As we made our way to our meeting space, we admired the details along the way.
We held our meeting in the bar found on the main level. I felt far away from present-day and caught myself exploring the room with my eyes while trying to stay engaged in our business. Wisteria Castle is a lovely distraction.
After our meeting, we explored the second level. In addition to rooms that accommodate brides and grooms preparing for their big day, this level provides seating areas with excellent views of the main floor.
There’s a room where a bride and her party get ready, and a room where a groom and his attendants gather.
We were in awe of the chapel. Several beautiful weddings have taken advantage of the ceremony space.
Our next venture took us to the lower level where partygoers can wine and dine.
Wisteria Castle is available for weddings, corporate parties, private events, and public events organized by the owners. Events are limited to 50 guests and attendees must be 16 years of age and older.
The Jefferson County Tourism Council is grateful for the opportunity to take a private tour of the venue. Owner, Diane, shared stories of the history of individual pieces found in the castle, and of the buildout of the space. If you have an opportunity to attend a Wisteria Castle event, be sure to ask lots of questions about what you see. The castle was furnished entirely with second-hand items, many rich with history.
You can enjoy a tour of the castle on December 3, 2023 at the Watertown Holiday Parade of Homes. Wisteria Castle, along with three other homes and a Watertown business, will be dressed in their holiday best for your enjoyment.
