The Arts Alliance of Greater Jefferson Brings Artists Back to Paint “en plein air”

6 years ago, local artist and Arts Alliance Board Member, Terrence Coffmann approached the rest of the Board of Directors with an idea. Plein Air events seemed to be becoming more and more popular and he thought that Jefferson should consider hosting one. After meeting with artist, Wendie Thompson, and attending other area Plein Air events, it was decided to bring this new and unique event to Jefferson in 2017.

Since 2017, over 200 artists have participated in this “open air” painting events. Each year, these artists are welcomed to go outside in downtown Jefferson and surrounding areas to paint historic buildings, churches, parks, the Rock River, and other points of interest. At the end of the week, their paintings are put on display, judged, and are available for purchase.

The 2023 Jefferson Plein Air will take place July 10-16. This year, it may look a little bit different.

Jefferson Plein Air artists will still continue to paint in downtown Jefferson, but they will also be allowed to paint at the Jefferson Fair Park, during the Jefferson County Fair. Anyone and everyone is invited to explore and watch the artists create their paintings at either location.

On Friday, July 14th, there is a Private Reception and Awards Presentation where attendees can view the completed art for the first time. Art will also be on display and available for purchase on Saturday, July 15th and Sunday, July 16th in the Jefferson County Fair Park Activity Center.
