Nestled within the Town of Oakland is Lake Ripley – a natural, glacial kettle lake that was formed over 12,000 years ago! It is 423 acres, with a slow-no-wake time of 7pm-11am. Lake Ripley is protected by the Lake Ripley Management District. Their mission statement is “to protect and enhance Lake Ripley’s water quality and overall ecological health, while maintaining public access and use of the lake that is safe, fair, and practical.” The Lake Ripley Management District also maintains 207 acres of restored habitat!
Eat + Drink
Oakland has fantastic places to eat! Hering’s Lake Ripley Inn has a great Friday night fish fry and the Mink Farm is home to a local favorite – the French dip sandwich! The Lake Ripley Family Restaurant is the place to be for breakfast and friendly staff!
Come + Stay
If you’re looking for a place to stay, Oakland has some charming Bed and Breakfasts! The Lake Ripley Lodge has a commanding view of the lake with a wrap around porch to sit and gaze. The Covington Manor is quaint and a short walk to downtown Cambridge.
Recreation
The crystal-clear waters of Lake Ripley are ideal for swimming, power boating, canoeing, jet skiing, waterskiing, sailing, and fishing. A true sportsman’s paradise, Lake Ripley boasts the Wisconsin state record for large-mouth bass. Bluegill, Walleye, Northern, and bass abound. Winter activities include ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
